Tonsai Beach Climbing Wall
Tonsai Beach at the base of the western limestone cliff of Phi Phi Don is the hub of the island's rock climbing industry — the cliff above the beach provides the most accessible sport climbing on the island, with bolted routes on the lower sections suitable for beginners (4a-5c) and the harder lines on the steeper upper sections attracting experienced climbers (7a and above). The climbing operators at Tonsai Beach (the beach accessible only by boat from the village or by scrambling around the headland at low tide) provide equipment rental, instruction, and guided climbing programmes that have made Phi Phi one of the premier climbing destinations in Thailand alongside Krabi's Railay Beach.

Deep Water Soloing Cliffs
The deep water soloing (DWS) tradition on Koh Phi Phi — climbing the overhanging limestone walls above the sea without a rope and falling into the water when you reach your limit — has developed on Phi Phi since the 1990s and represents the most adventurous climbing activity available on the island. The specific DWS venues (accessible only by longail boat and identified by the climbers' holds worn into the limestone at water level) provide some of the best overhanging DWS routes accessible by boat in the world: the combination of excellent limestone holds, dramatic overhanging walls, and the deep clear Andaman water below has attracted international DWS specialists. The activity requires both climbing ability and water confidence but no protective equipment beyond swimwear.

Phi Phi Viewpoint Trail
The hiking trail to the Phi Phi viewpoint provides the most aerobic land-based activity on the island — the steep concrete staircase climbing 186 metres through the coconut palms and jungle vegetation of the Phi Phi Don hillside above the village is a genuine physical challenge in the tropical heat and humidity. The trail passes the viewpoint café (supplying refreshments to the sunrise crowd), the secondary viewpoint offering a different angle on the twin bays, and the junction with the trail continuing over the ridge to the eastern shore of the island. The viewpoint trail represents one of the few opportunities on Phi Phi Don to experience the interior of the limestone hills rather than the beaches and sea environment.

The jungle trail connecting the village to Long Beach on Phi Phi Don's southeastern shore passes through the narrow section of jungle that covers the peninsula between the two eastern bays — the 30-minute walk through the secondary forest and coconut palm vegetation provides the only accessible hiking experience on Koh Phi Phi Don that is not a beach or boat activity. The trail reveals the island's internal landscape: the rocky limestone outcrops, the native vegetation that has survived the resort development, and the bird life of the island interior (the common kingfisher, the oriental pied hornbill, and the various flycatcher species) that are rarely noticed from the beach.

Sea Kayaking Phi Phi
Sea kayaking from Phi Phi Don provides the most intimate exploration of the coastline and sea caves that are not accessible by the larger longtail tour boats — the kayak route along the northern coast of Phi Phi Don visits the sea caves at the base of the limestone cliffs, the mangrove inlets at the protected bays on the northern shore, and provides access to the smaller beaches and coves that are not included on the standard longtail tour circuit. The kayaking experience allows visitors to stop at will, explore the sea caves at water level (the bio-luminescent plankton visible in the darkest caves after dark provides one of the most extraordinary natural spectacles accessible from Phi Phi), and appreciate the karst landscape at the human scale rather than from the tour boat.
