Cerro Dorotea Summit Hike

A popular half-day hike up Cerro Dorotea offering panoramic 360-degree views of Puerto Natales, the fjord, and distant Andean peaks.

  1. 1

    Cerro Dorotea Trailhead

The trail begins 6 km east of town. A private property fee applies; the well-marked path starts through open grassland.

  2. 2

    Forest Entry

The trail enters a lenga beech forest, one of the signature trees of Patagonian Tierra del Fuego, offering shade and shelter.

  3. 3

    Rocky Scramble Section

The upper section requires hands-and-feet scrambling over loose scree and exposed rock — exhilarating and well worth the effort.

  4. 4

    Cerro Dorotea Summit (820m)

At the top, a Chilean flag marks the summit. On clear days you can see all of Puerto Natales, the fjord, and the Torres del Paine massif.

  5. 5

    Patagonian Steppe Overlook

Look east over the vast Patagonian steppe, a windswept treeless plain that stretches toward Argentina and the Atlantic coast.

  6. 6

    Return Valley Path

Descend via the same trail, pausing to watch for Andean condors soaring overhead — a common sight on this exposed ridgeline.
