Miraflores: Lima's Pacific-Side Neighbourhood

Miraflores — Lima's most visited district — sits on the clifftops above the Pacific; the Parque del Amor, the Larcomar shopping centre built into the clifface, the Huaca Pucllana pyramid in the middle of the suburb, and the world-class restaurant scene make it Lima's most complete neighbourhood

  1. 1

    Parque del Amor

Parque del Amor — on the cliff of Miraflores above the Pacific Ocean — is modeled after Gaudí's Park Güell, with mosaic benches and the famous sculpture 'El Beso' (The Kiss); The park's location on a cliff, with the Pacific horizon visible below and paragliders soaring on the coastal thermals, makes it one of Lima's most romantic spaces

  2. 2

    Larcomar Cliff Mall

Larcomar – a shopping center built into the cliff at Miraflores – is one of Lima's most unusual commercial spaces; the terraced structure descends from the cliff above the Pacific Ocean, with restaurants, cinemas and bars on different levels; the view of the Pacific from Larcomar's terraces is the best in Lima

  3. 3

    Paragliding across the Pacific Ocean

The thermals rising from the cliffs of Miraflores support one of the world's most accessible paragliders; tandem paragliding from the cliff with the Pacific Ocean below, the Lima coast stretching in both directions, and the city behind is one of Lima's most memorable experiences — easy to book on the cliff

  4. 4

    Huaca Pucllana

Huaca Pucllana – a massive adobe pyramid from the Lima culture (200-700 CE) – rises in the middle of the Miraflores suburb, surrounded by modern apartment buildings; the pyramid is still being excavated; the contrast between the ancient pyramid and the contemporary urban environment around it is one of Lima's most striking juxtapositions

  5. 5

    Miraflores restaurant scene

The streets around Miraflores - especially Av. Larco and the surrounding neighborhoods — have the highest concentration of world-class restaurants in South America; Central, Maido, La Mar and dozens of other famous restaurants are within walking distance; the neighborhood is the physical heart of Lima's gastronomic revolution

  6. 6

    Pacific Sunset

Miraflores Cliff at sunset — when the Pacific glows orange and the silhouettes of paragliders cross the sun — is one of Lima's signature experiences; the city is notorious for its overcast gray skies (garúa fog) in winter, but on clear days the Pacific sunset from the cliffs is extraordinary
