Daintree Rainforest Walks

Hike the trails of the Daintree Rainforest where the network of boardwalks, forest paths, and creek crossings allows independent exploration of the ancient ecosystem, the walks ranging from the 15-minute Marrdja Boardwalk to the full-day hikes of the coastal headlands.

  1. 1

    Marrdja Boardwalk

Walk the Marrdja Boardwalk near Cape Tribulation where the 1.2-kilometer loop trail passes through mangrove forest and tropical rainforest on a raised boardwalk, the interpretive signs explaining the ecology of the two distinct ecosystems and the wildlife of both the forest floor and the mangrove mud.

  2. 2

    Jindalba Boardwalk

Walk the Jindalba Boardwalk at the Daintree Discovery Centre where the 1-kilometer accessible trail passes through lowland rainforest with large trees, strangler figs, and the massive root systems of the buttressed trees, the trail suitable for all fitness levels and the best for close observation of the forest floor ecology.

  3. 3

    Emmagen Creek Track

Hike the Emmagen Creek Track north of Cape Tribulation where the trail follows the creek through the rainforest to the beach, the creek crossings and the forest path providing a genuine wilderness hiking experience in the most remote section of the road-accessible Daintree.

  4. 4

    Mount Sorrow Ridge

Climb the Mount Sorrow Ridge Trail, the most challenging and rewarding hike in the Daintree National Park, the 6-kilometer return trail ascending 770 meters through the rainforest to the ridge viewpoint above the Cape Tribulation coast, the views of the rainforest, the reef, and the Coral Sea the finest in the region.

  5. 5

    Guided Walks

Join a guided rainforest walk where the specialist naturalist guides identify the plants, the insects, the spiders, and the birds of the Daintree that the untrained eye would miss, the guides explaining the evolutionary adaptations, the ecological relationships, and the Aboriginal uses of the plants in the world oldest tropical forest.

  6. 6

    Night Walks

Experience a guided night walk where the forest transforms completely after dark, the diurnal animals giving way to the possums, the tree kangaroos, the glowing fungi, the nocturnal insects, and the sleeping birds roosting in the understorey, the night sounds and the torchlit forest an entirely different experience from the daytime rainforest.
