Tallow Beach stretches 7 kilometres south from Cape Byron — the long, exposed beach has no development and provides a complete contrast to the busy main beach just around the cape.

Arakwal National Park was created in 2001 in partnership with the Arakwal Bunitj people — the park protects the coastal heathland, wetlands, and beach that form part of their traditional Country.

Cosy Corner Beach
Cosy Corner is a small, sheltered beach within Arakwal Park — a favourite of locals who know the southern coastline, it catches the morning sun and is one of the best swimming beaches in the Byron area.

Broken Head Headland
Broken Head Nature Reserve protects the rocky headland south of Tallow Beach — a short circuit walk through banksia woodland reaches a lookout above the sea with views back to Cape Byron.

Kings Beach
Kings Beach within Broken Head Nature Reserve is Byron Bay's most remote beach — accessible only on foot, the south-facing beach with its rock platforms is the antithesis of the busy main beach.

The coastal wetlands within Arakwal Park are exceptional bird habitat — pacific black ducks, azure kingfishers, and green pygmy geese all use the wetlands, with seasonal influxes of migratory shorebirds.
